There is no direct evidence that creatine causes hair loss. The entire fear traces back to one small 2009 study that measured a rise in a hormone linked to balding — not actual hair loss. If you're genetically predisposed to male pattern baldness, there's a theoretical mechanism worth understanding, but the leap from "creatine raised a hormone marker" to "creatine makes you go bald" isn't supported by the research.

Where the myth comes from

In 2009, a study of college rugby players found that three weeks of creatine supplementation was associated with an increase in DHT — the hormone that drives genetic hair loss. The DHT rise was reported as significant in percentage terms, though levels stayed within the normal physiological range.

That single finding became the foundation for years of forum warnings. What's almost always left out: the study measured a hormone, not hair. No participant was shown to lose hair, and the result has not been reliably replicated since.

What the study didn't show
